EURO 5 DIESEL NOW SOLD IN JOHOR, RM2.30 PER LITRE

MUAR: The much-awaited Euro 5 diesel has been launched in Johor to provide cleaner fuel, especially to some 3,000 lorries travelling in and out of Singapore.

The initiative to provide the higher standard diesel was to help lorry operators comply with Singapore’s new regulation for smoke opacity, which took effect in July.

Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek said that Euro 5 diesel, which is being sold at RM2.30 per litre, is currently available at four BHP petrol stations in the state.

“The Euro 5 diesel has been given the green light to be sold at RM0.10 higher than the regular subsidised Euro-2M diesel, only because of its better quality.

“We are launching the higher standard diesel in Johor first, to aid lorry operators comply with the new set of regulation implemented by Singapore,” he told reporters after launching the Infiniti Euro 5 diesel at the Pagoh RnR here Wednesday.

He added that the Government also wanted to ensure that good ties, especially in terms of trade and transportation, were maintained with the island republic.

Hassan also pointed out that Euro 5 diesel would be available in another seven BHP petrol stations in the state by next week.

“We are still in discussions to make the Euro 5 diesel available in other states, so that transportation companies can opt for this environmental-friendly fuel.

“Euro 5 contains less sulphur, emits less black smoke and enhances the maintenance of heavy vehicles,” he added.
